Three generations of chocolate lovers led to the birth of the MONBANA chocolaterie in 1934. A French family business that was to evolve into one of the most creative and innovative businesses in its sector.
Producing more than 2.500 tons of powdered chocolate annually and exporting to more than 60 countries, MONBANA is an acclaimed Company specializing in chocolate in all its forms.

In the trenches of the First World War Louis Guattari meets for the very first time Pierre-François Lardet, founder of the infamous French chocolate brand “Banania”.
A special friendship forms between the two and Louis being a chocolate lover, participates in the “Banania” business for several years.
In 1934, Louis Guattari decides to write his own story and creates a cocoa factory in Courbevoie, very close to Paris.
As a tribute to his friend Pierre-François, he names the factory MONBANA, referring to “Mon Banania”.
Then, thanks to his talent in design he creates the Louisette, the sketch of a small girl, who became the mascot for the chocolate powder breakfast beverage.
Influenced by the war and convinced about the significance of a balanced diet, Louis enriches the already existing recipe, based on cocoa and banana flour, with vitamins and minerals. This is how nutritional expertise of MONBANA is born.
In the 50’s, the company develops mainly with the initiative of Louis’s sons, Jean and Paul. MONBANA now includes a roasting unit for cocoa beans and becomes an expert in fine quality chocolate powder.
From then on, MONBANA has been an industrial business with a human aspect that combines three activities: chocolate powder, nutrition products as well as confectionery among which truffles, filled chocolate shells that are the company’s emblematic specialties.
At the end of the 70’s, a new idea emerges from the industrial facilities that were used for the production of food products: the so-called Neapolitan, that is molded chocolate squares. The first made its official appearance in 1985, and became a “must” accompaniment for coffee.
After studying Biology, Yves, son of Jean Guattari, arrives at MONBANA and decides to devote himself to the business which was enjoying great success and was aimed mainly at hospitality professionals.
Yves, an entrepreneur with a vision, placed innovation at the epicenter of the company’s development strategy, with products such as: chocolate coated cereal, almonds covered with chocolate, flavored chocolate powders, milkshakes, holiday collections…
At the beginning of the 2000s, the list of MONBANA’s partners includes high-profile companies in the food industry, as well as large food and beverage firms.
Having already acquired such a legacy, MONBANA decides to promote its own brand, launching a gourmet collection for the general public in 2008 that would go off the beaten track: chocolate and chocolate bars, gourmet beverages, chocolate desserts…
Within the framework of the development of MONBANA, the first Boutiques “Chocolaterie MONBANA” were introduced and have now reached 30 in number.
2013 marks the change of MONBANA, with a new logo and a new corporate identity that establishes its position as a leading French company – specialized in chocolate in all its forms.
